I started this illustration today. It was just a woman's face and then I started to add things (this is an extract).
I'll see how it goes. I'll be starting another project soon and hopefully I'll be sharing some pictures.

About the process...
Hi there, I thought it'll be cool to show the process of one of the pages from 'Tiny Life left'.
First I receive Nick's scripts. They're different to what I'm used to work in comic books. They're like a text, divided only by paragraphs (which may contain a bunch of pages) and chapters.
My first task is to give comic book format to it, dividing the text in panels and pages, and then I start with little sketches for all the pages. For the first book every chapter had to be divided in 20 pages, but in left I have no limit for that, so there's more freedom to work on each scene.
With Nick's approbation on the sketches, I start drawing. When's ready, I scan the page and send it over to Nick. Then, he gives me comments, suggestions, corrections, or new ideas.
Whenever a change in the pencils is done, I usually take a picture of it and send it to Nick instead of scanning again the whole thing. Then, before sending a package of 10 pages to him, I correct some more details and changes.
For example, here we have Jed and Fred playing they're infiltrating an enemy alien spaceship. In the first try my interpretation of the script was this:
Then, Nick told me that he wanted to visually show their imaginations on the page, so a spacesuit to Fred was added, and laser pistols to both of them. This idea was insinuated in the script, specifying that the backgrounds change at some moments. But here the changes were on the characters, as happened in a previous page that I made them look like robots, but that wasn't specified and fortunately Nick was ok with that. In this case I decided to show these extra elements whenever something fantastic appears in the same panel:
Something else was needed for Jed, he still looked 'normal' holding only a pistol. The solution was this:
So, this is my pretty simple explanation of the process behind the pencils, basically this is the way we work together with Nick in every page. Most of the pages don't need so many changes as this one, only those pages where a new idea comes up or there are many specific things that Nick wants to show.
You can always visit The Official Tiny Life Website to follow the advance of the books closely.

2 more projects

I've restarted my work on 'The bullet' a two-issues story written by Hermés Piqué. The first time I worked with this story was a few years ago, and the project was stopped.
Now, Hermés wants to continue the project and I'm starting over again, drawing and coloring the comic. Right now I'm sketching all the pages of the first issue.
In the other hand, I've also started a new work for Kevin Monk, with whom I've worked drawing several pin-ups and characters for a Role Playing Game in the past. Now, he wants me to start drawing another group of characters and pin-ups.
That makes a total of 5 projects at the same time. I'm so happy... and busy.

New projects

Hi there, I've been pretty busy these last days. I'm right now working on 2 projects besides Tiny Life, so here I'm showing a picture of each one.
I can't talk a lot about them, so barely speaking, the color page it's for a project where different scenes from movies are taken and crazy twists are given, plus original scripts of the creators.
About the other picture, it's just a sketch that I've done as a test for the third project. The story consists of a group of women who foment a rebellion.
By the way, another year is about to pass. I'd like to send my best wishes for the next year for everyone out there reading this. Thanks for your visit.

New sketches for Tiny Life
These are the new versions of the characters for the next book of Tiny Life. They're younger, and a bit more realistic in some aspects.
The full body views were the firsts trys, then the faces are the more defined versions.
I've been dividing the new script in pages lately and I think I'll be starting with story boards for the pages pretty soon.

New Illustrations

I've been working with the writer and creator Kevin Monk from Port Nova Media in order to create some illustrations and pin-ups.
Here are two of them, one is for a project called 'MegaHeroes' which involves 'retro' superheroes, who look more or less like in the 80's.
The other illustration is the cover for a Role Playing Game called 'Astral Empires', which was created by Kevin.

Submission

During these days I've been preparing five pages for a submission. This is the first page.
I'll be working in the next days in a new short story for submission to different places. I'll be trying to make each page in two different styles, one 'mainstream' and the other my personal style.
In order to achieve that, I'll have to do a lineal drawing style and consider it like the mainstream style, then I could apply lights and shadows, textures and different effects to transform it into my personal style. We'll see what happens.
In the other hand, I'll start to finish some old scripts to have them ready for a writer submission.

He's searching for clues of his past and his parents' past. The story starts to give a mystic turn.
The script, inks, digital textures and lettering are the work of Nick Jones, president of Sliver ltd.
Pencils by Nicolás Colacitti.

Shugendo, a warriors path: Page 1 preview

Here's a preview of the first page from the first chapter of 'Shugendo, a warriors path' written by Kris Gardner.
Has been a while since the last time I've done the Anime/Manga style, but I find out that I can easily adapt me to it.
I'm also learning a lot about ninjas. It's a really cool project and I'm thankful to Kris that chose me to draw it.
I'll be uploading here some sketches and pages from time to time.

Teamwork

I've been working hand-to-hand with the CableNube's members in order to create a 2-pages test for an editor these last days .
We made the short script and the layouts, then the sketches, the rendering and the inks.
Once all was done, we add to it some edition with Photoshop.
It took about 22 hours of work, and this was a great experience to work as a team.

The Master Key - Page 6 of 6

This is the last page, you can see all the finished pages are at my comicspace: The Master Key
The story has some meaning for me but I believe it's open to the reader's interpretation.
About the style that I've used, I think it works good but just for short stories and illustrations. The main issue that I found is that it requieres a lot of time, with the same quantity of lines used in a panel I could have done one or more lineal pages (well, maybe a little exaggerated).
Anyway, it was something fun to do.

6-pages short story

I've been also writing a short story just for fun, and it's also useful to extend my gallery with new material. I'll try to work these pages with a new style, we'll see what happens.
It's possible that I'll try to get it published later, maybe at some anthology.
These are the little storyboards that I make once I have the script done. Their only purpose is to serve as a reference for the main sketches in the final page.
I'll try to upload here every finished page as soon as I have them ready.
What I've been doing these days

I've been working recently in the last pencilled pages of Tiny Life's issue 5. Once the first five issues are completely inked, toned and lettered by the creator of the series and president of Sliver ltd. Nick Jones, to final product will be submitted to a publisher.

Role Playing Game

I've been working in finishing some details of an RPG that I've done about five years ago (and I've been developing it during about another five years). I've found it between old drawings and papers and I think that it has some potential.
I'm planning to submit it somewhere once all its pages are completely designed. It's about special forces in world war II. I know this has nothing to do directly with comics, but they're related somehow.

Code: Humans: Page 1 test 2

Here's a new version of the first page. I think that I've corrected the failures of the previous version.
About colors, I think they could be necessary at a certain moment of the story, but in the meantime the grayscale accomplishes his objectives.
About the text boxes, I've tried to not interrupt too much the drawings.

Code: Humans: Page 1 test

Here's a little preview of a test that I've done in the first page of 'Code: Humans'. I've tried different coloring styles and also grayscales, and possibly I'll take this option.
Anyway this won't be the final version yet, the character's legs aren't clear and I hope to add more lights and shadows later.
I've added the text boxes just to see how it looks, but I'll have to work in how they're located across the page.

Even more new projects
More personal projects are on sight, this time a series of short stories that will conform a graphic novel or more.
At this time, 'Code:Humans' and 'The Messenger' are paused but I'm planning to finish at least 5 or 10 pages for 'Code:Humans' and use those pages to submit to different publishers.
The same thing for 'The Messenger'. It's possible that Rodrigo and me will start this project first. Time will tell.
Another new project

New project: Characters

I'm working right now in a new short 8-pages story written by Travis Gibb. These are his characters.
In this process of remaking the characters in my style (they were drawn by another artist before) I take the chance to test what style works better for the characters and the story. I think I'll be using both styles (shaded and lineal) for two different stories that are narrated in the same 8 pages.
The story is part of an anthology called 'Forbidden Paradise'.
You'll be able to know more about Travis at the Orange Cone Productions myspace.
Monday, April 23, 2007
Test Panels

Here's a test I've done for a publisher. Two panels that describe the script they gave me.
For this work I've used a more clean style than my usual work, and this will give a simpler job for the inker and a great chance for the colorist to create volumes and lights with the color.
I can use this style also for superheroic comics, but anyway I'll be uploading more of that specific genre soon.

Angels & Demons: Digital ink

Here's the same character from the previous post, now I'm using the same image to explain the process of digital inking that I've done, just like an experiment.
First I've done a really rough drawing of the character. I didn't detail a lot her face nor the clothes. Once the image is in the computer, I've used my Wacom tablet and Photoshop to start the inking.
The pro is that you'll be able to add lots of details. The only negative thing that I've found is that maybe it'll take more time than the common inking.
I'm still using markers for the inking, but I think I'll be considering the digital inking in the future.

Comic book: Angels & Demons

Here's an image from one of the characters in my story "Angels & Demons". I got this project aside at the moment, but as soon as can I'll be sketching all the pages and re-writing the script.
The story is about the internal struggle of a man in his way towards knowing himself, and in the search of his truth.

Tiny Life: Issue 1 cover preview

Here's the first image of the cover for Tiny Life #01. This is just pencils, it'll be inked and lettered by Nick Jones, president of Sliver Ltd.
The concept was to show that this story is about a 'stick figure' character, so I've developed this image in where I show the difference between the main character and the rest of the people.
He's going to the left walking, and the rest is going in a rush towards the right side. He's also facing the sun, and the rest not.
Now I'm working on Tiny Life #03.

Comic books: Scripts status - Part 2

'The messenger' all the pages of 4 of the total 7 issues are already sketched by The EX3 Project team.
'America' right now the script is being developed by Rodrigo Mavica.
'Code: Humans' (image) it has all 4 issues sketched and now I'm deeply in the process of developing the characters designs.
Monday, March 05, 2007
Comic book: Code: Humans

Here's the first sketch for the main character of 'Code: Humans'. For now it's a short 4-issues mini-series, and thus far 2 issues are completely written and with their own story boards.
The story tells about a futuristic and decayed humanity, who suffers an alien attack leaving just a few humans alive on earth.
That's for now, I won't be revealing a lot until the work is more advanced, but I can tell that this isn't a typical 'alien invasion story'.
'Code: Humans' is being developed solely by Nicolás Colacitti.
Sunday, March 04, 2007
Comic book: The Messenger

Here's a new design for the face of the main character in 'The Messenger'. However, it's possible that this won't be the final design. The story is set in the 1920's, and this man is in his search of a new beginning after his dark past in the Great War. He's now a private investigator, and the story is about his first great case.
The story involves mystery, horror, beliefs, and lots of symbols. We want the reader to take part and interact with the story to try to solve what's happening.
Let's remember that this story is the first that I do in group with the co-creator Rodrigo Mavica. The group is called The EX3 Project, and that blog will be updated soon.

Jed jr., the main character, is entering to a bus in his way to the house of one of his friends, and he seems to start having visions.

Comic book: Character design

Here are the first sketches for the design of the seven main characters for 'The Messenger'. This isn't an illustration, nor a complete design, it's just a reference with some of the elements we want for the characters.
Co-creator Rodrigo Mavica is also working on his version of the characters. Soon we'll be comparing both versions and selecting what works best for each character.
Each character has a completely different personality and even nationality. We want to emphasize in each character's strong points and weaknesses.

Comic book script: Story boards

Here's a quick show of the first rough story boards for 'The Messenger #1'.
As you can see, the level of detail is minimum and for now it just has the utility of being a reference for the later sketches. These story boards give me a clearer view of the script, and also give me the chance to apply changes if something could be better represented.
Soon I'll be up loading more story boards and a few characters sketches.
As 'The Messenger' is being developed by Rodrigo Mavica and me under 'The EX3 Project' please also take a look into the group's blog.

Comic books: Scripts status - Part 1
At the moment NC Comics is working on a few own projects. All titles are tentative to change for now.
They are:
'The messenger' which is done with the participation of Rodrigo Mavica (The EX3 project team). The entire script is almost done, now in the process of sketching all the pages.
'America' which is also done by the The EX3 project team. At the moment the story is being defined, in its firsts steps.
'Code: Humans' which is for now entirely being made by Nicolás Colacitti. It's on his very first steps. Just concepts and ideas for now.
More information will come as soon as new material is produced. Thanks.
